As we are all having to stay home for a period, you may be missing big events such as Burns Night. But how can we celebrate even in the current situation? We should definitely celebrate and continue our traditions, as it will keep our spirits up! Therefore, we have made this short guide on how to celebrate at home:
1.Follow traditions as much as possible.
Prepare the food you would always prepare and create the atmosphere you would expect the holiday to bring you. Holidays are to express our joy with our loved ones, and we shouldn’t give that away. The typical Burns Night Supper includes haggis, neeps, and tatties of course! Here is a simple recipe if you are not too familiar.
As for drinks, virtual whiskey tasting is such a new and fun way to celebrate the evening! Check out Glasgow Distillery Company if you would like to celebrate in a more unconventional way. They offer virtual tastings on the 21st, 25th & 28th January so there will be something for everyone.
2. Call your loved ones.
Despite the fact you cannot see them in person, you can definitely call your loved ones on video chat and still enjoy supper together! Celebrating the holidays at home is still all about the people around us and the internet allows us to do that despite the pandemic. Surely, it is not the same as celebrating in person, but it allows you to stay in touch with your loved ones, wherever they may be! You might be the one who puts a smile on their face if they’re away from home.
3. Look up online events.
We are all in this together and we can still celebrate together, just online!
For example, Big Burns Supper is starting at 7 pm tomorrow, and they have invited local, national and international artists to mark this special day! You can broadcast it for free and it could be an amazing addition to your evening.
Another example is Burn & Beyond with live music and poetry in celebration of Robert Burn’s life!
