Rob Roy Country is the name given to the area around Lochearnhead, Balquhidder, St. Fillans and Strathyre. Taking its name from the local folk hero, this location is rich with history, breath-taking scenery and numerous activities available to visitors. One of the most recent additions to it is the BLiSS Trail, a series of art installations created to promote tourism in the area. So what better way to show you these wonderful places if not by following the trail?
St. Fillans
This lovely little village in rural Perthshire has a lot to offer to its visitors. One of the most picturesque golf courses in the area, St. Fillans Golf Club welcomes everyone, from beginners to professionals. If you like spending time in the wilderness and want to see what nature has to offer, you might want to contact Aquila Ecology and plan a wildlife walk to observe the local flora and fauna from up close. For the most adventurous ones, The Loch Earn Watersports Centre could have what you are looking for, from water-skiing to paddle boarding.
Lochearnhead
The annual Highland Games recently took place right here, on the banks of Loch Earn. Loved by tourists for its scenic landscape and its closeness to the National Cycle Network, Lochearnhead is the perfect destination for families, Munro baggers and water sports enthusiasts. Outdoor Explore operates in this area too, you can contact them if you wish to take guided kayak tours, archery lessons, mountain bike trips or paddle sport courses.
Balquhidder
Best known for hosting Rob Roy’s grave, Balquhidder is an ideal destination for hikers and cyclists. A narrow country road will take you to Balquhidder Church, just about a mile from the National Cycle Network. Will you be able to find the hidden waterfall?
Strathyre
This Victorian village situated by River Balvaig hosts eight different art installations. We found five of them, we will leave the remaining three to you. The stunning woodland surrounding the village is ideal for walking and cycling, and the presence of small patches of land by the river makes it possible to relax and play in the low water on nice warm days. Strathyre also has its own homemade ice-cream shop, the perfect way to refresh after a long day packed with fun activities!
