Heart 200

The “Heart 200” is a new driving route following the success of the popular “Northcoast 500” in the north of Scotland. The route passes through stunning scenery, with the rolling hills and farms of Perthshire and the rugged lochs and glens of the Trossachs. It also includes the cities of Stirling and Perth. We have accommodation at several places along the route if you are a looking to break up the route with a short stay or a longer break at the end of your journey.

 

Stirling – Scotland’s historic capital is instantly recognizable by its popular landmarks, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. The city also boasts a fantastic variety of shops and eateries. Callander – The “Gateway to the Scottish Highlands”, Callander has plenty for visitors to enjoy, the Hamilton Toy Museum, Rob Roy Experience, an 18-hole golf course, and a huge variety of shops and restaurants along the main street. Lochearnhead and Balquhidder – Lochearnhead is a popular spot known for its stunning loch and railway heritage. Signs of the old railway can still be seen with the bridges and viaducts now forming part of the picturesque Route 7 Cycle Way that passes through Glen Ogle. Known as Rob Roy Country, visitors can head down Balquhidder Glen to see the last resting place of the famous Scottish outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor. The BLiSS trail of art installations can be seen in the village of Balquhidder, Lochearnhead, Strathyre and St. Fillans.

 

 

 

 

Killin – This quiet village is Highland Perthshire is perfect for rest and recreation. Canoe or kayak on Loch Tay, set off cycling along the Sustrans Cycle Network, or enjoy a picnic lunch at the magnificent Falls of Dochart. Looking for some inspiration? Auchterarder and Gleneagles – Known as The “Long Town” due to it’s one and a half mile high street, Auchterarder is a popular stop with a great number of shops and restaurants. Nearby Auchterarder is the Inerpeffray Library, Scotland’s oldest lending library, with a fascinating selection of books. Gleneagles – Gleneagles is most famous for its hotel and golf course, built by the Caledonian Railway Company and opened in 1924. There are three courses, the King’s Course, Queens Course, and PGA Centenary Course. The name Gleneagles does not refer to the birds but “Eagles”, but comes from eaglais (ecclesiastical) in reference to the chapel and well of St. Mungo.

 

Muthill – This charming village is small but worth a visit. Play a round at the 9-hole golf course or enjoy Scottish hospitality at the Barley Bree restaurant.

 

Crieff and Comrie – Whisky lovers can take a tour of the Glenturret Distillery, while those looking for something more extreme can enjoy a range of activities at Action Glen. Crieff also boasts some top restaurants, such as The Tower, or the Red Squirrel Café for a light lunch. The village of Comrie plays host to the Comrie Fortnight in midsummer, featuring a host of family friendly events, and the famous Comrie Flambeaux Hogmanay celebrations at New Year. Make sure to visit the nearby Cultybraggan Camp (a former WWII POW camp) and Auchingarrich Wildlife Park.
