Stuck for ideas of what to do with the kids this Autumn? There are a number of fantastic places for them to enjoy. Here are our top five ideas to get you started.
- The Battle of Bannockburn Experience, Stirling. A recent addition to Stirling’s array of historical sites, this one is a little different. Step inside and the latest technology will transport you back to 1314 and the decisive battle between Robert the Bruce and Edward II. Using holograms you will see the combatants preparing and fighting on the day. The highlight is the interactive battle map where children can take command of the forces. Costumed guides will then explain how the battle was won and lost. If you are still hungry for more history after a visit, head along to the Wallace Monument where you can learn about Scotland’s hero William Wallace.

- Loch Lomond Shores, Loch Lomond. An aquarium, miniature golf and a treetop adventure course ensure that a day out to Loch Lomond Shores is jam-packed with fun. If you are lucky you may find pirates wandering around and go on a treasure hunt with them, or set sail on the loch. There is also a shopping centre and café, or you are free to enjoy a picnic lunch looking out over Loch Lomond.

- The Crannog Centre, Loch Tay. This one-of-a-kind historic attraction on the shores of Loch Tay takes you back thousands of years to the time of the ancient Celts. A reconstruction of an Iron Age Crannog is the centrepiece and the passionate guides are on hand to answer any questions. A packed year-round calendar of events means it is definitely worth revisiting, with celebrations of ancient festivals and demonstrations of cooking and crafts. If you have fallen in love with Loch Tay, you can also enjoy a Loch Tay Safari, just a short drive from the Crannog Centre in the village of Kenmore. Safaris run until November.

- Noah’s Ark, Perth. An indoor play park with soft play area for young children, go-karting and bowling available. If you are looking for something a little different, there is an ice-skating rink at Dewar’s Centre in Perth.

- Local Parks. A fun day out need not cost you anything. There are a number of fantastic local parks in the area. In Bridge of Allan, by Stirling, in Killin, Callander, Lochearnhead and Strathyre there is ample room for expending any extra energy.
