Highland Chocolatier is a chocolate shop, lounge and exhibition room, not to mention the home of award-winning Master Chocolatier Iain Burnett. This 4 star tourist attraction is located in Grandtully, in a scenic spot on the banks of River Tay, and it is a must-visit for all chocolate lovers and refined palates.
Chocolate tastings take place in the beautifully decorated lounge and can be experienced either with a handheld audio guide, with a trained guide, or they can be led by the Master Chocolatier himself. Visitors will have the chance to savour five of the best and most popular chocolates on the menu, among which are what have been recognised as the world’s best truffles.
Iain’s Velvet Truffles have won Gold two years in a row at the prestigious International Chocolate Awards. But what is it that makes them so special? The unique texture and flavour of these chocolates comes from a selection of natural ingredients only, a meticulous procedure that takes two whole days to be completed, and of course the single-origin cocoa from the volcanic island of São Tomé.
If you are not ready to leave after the unforgettable experience of the guided tasting, proceed to the exhibition room located right next to the Master Chocolatier’s kitchen. Here you will be able to learn more about the history of chocolate and the fascinating process of transforming cocoa into truffle. At the front of the building, a chocolate and gift shop will give you the chance to purchase some of Iain’s delicious creations and pick little souvenirs from a range of games, fashion and homeware products.
Entire pages could be filled trying to describe the delicate, yet surprising taste of these chocolates, their smooth and creamy texture and how they melt in your mouth. However, the best way to find out what we are talking about is to head out to Grandtully and experience it first-hand.
