Last Saturday, August 18th, Killin hosted the annual agricultural show. Every year the community gathers in Breadalbane Park to celebrate local activities and products.
The festival started at 8.30 a.m. with the opening of the Food Court (just in time for breakfast!). The morning proceeded with a variety of competitions, shows and demonstrations. While local farmers were involved in the judging of sheep and cattle, a number of stands (charity, businesses, community) offered refreshments, demonstrations, and fun activities for the children.
At noon, a parade led by Comrie Pipe Band marked the beginning of a busy afternoon. All visitors were invited to take part in open competitions like the Fancy Dress Parade, the Bonnie Baby Competition and the Dog Show. Of course, the public was also entertained by exciting demonstrations by professionals: the Cycle Display made us hold our breath and a performance by Callander Highland Dancers made us want to move our feet to the rhythm of traditional Scottish music.
Families and couples, locals and tourists, children and seniors proceeded to enjoy the afternoon thanks to live music, sheep shearing demonstrations, vintage tractor parades, and of course the presentation of the Hall Trophies.
This year’s agricultural show was definitely a success, and further proof that no one knows how to make the most of a rainy day like the Scots!
