An innovative festival drawing on Scotland’s love of the literary macabre and celebrating crime writing will take place this year between 8th to 10th September.
Now in it’s 6th year, the festival brings together leading Scottish and international writers as well as showcasing debut voices and encouraging new writers. Some of the names appearing at this year’s festival including Lynda La Plante, Simon Kernick, Val McDermid, Ragnar Jónasson, Ian Rankin, Vince Cable, Christopher Brookmyre, Denise Mina and more! Highlights include the opening night gala, which will include the launch of a Bloody Scotland short story anthology and the award of the McIlvanney Prize as well as a stunning torchlight procession from Stirling Castle to the Albert Halls. As well as talks from leading and upcoming authors, there will also be a quiz, a play, forensics, a late night gig from the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers and so much more!
You also have the chance to catch Simon Kernick, Lynda La Plant, Peter May, Mark Billingham,Karen Rose, Chris Carter, Ann Cleeves, Man Booker shortlisted Graeme Macrae Burnet, Denzil Meyrick, Mason Cross, Louise Qwlsh and also familiar names including John Gordon Sinclair, Vince Cable, Douglas Henshall, deputy chief constable of Scotland, Iain Livingstone.
The organisers are excited to host the gala opening and the announcement of this year’s McIlvanney Prize for the Scottish Crime Book of the Year at Stirling Castle on the opening night, Friday 8th September. Following the opening reception there will be a torchlight procession down to the Albert Halls where Ian Rankin will be talking about 30 years of Rebus. You can grab your golden ticket to our opening ceremony or just join the torchlight procession.
Of course, we see the return of our Scotland vs England Crime Writers football match, the bursting-at-the-seams popular Crime at the Coo, Pitch Perfect and Crime in the Spotlight will return to showcase new crime writing before a number of the events.
