On this week’s blog, I thought I would take a break from my ‘Top 3 Tips’ series and take you through a small itinerary that you can use when staying at our Penthouse Apartment in Stirling.
The Penthouse Apartment in Stirling is a short walk from the centre of town with the mainline railway station, which serves all the major Scottish cities (30 mins to Glasgow, 55 minutes to Edinburgh) just a 5 minute walk away. There are many attractions and amenities, including the famous Stirling Castle, the Thistles Shopping Centre, and a range of restaurants, cafes and bars.
So, if you decide to stay at this fantastic accommodation then here are some great ways to spend the day in Stirling.

The AMF Bowling alley is a great way to spend some time as a couple or as a whole family. Plus, is just a 5 minute walk from the Penthouse Apartment. It offers 28 bowling lanes, VIP lanes, an arcade, pool table and an American style diner. AMF bowling also offers very affordable pricing with under 16s costing £4.99 per game, adults £5.99 and a family ticket just £19.39. Whether you are a history buff or simply looking to take in stunning architecture, taking a trip to Stirling Castle would be a fantastic choice for you. Just short of a 20 minute walk through the city, the castle sits proudly upon a volcanic rock and was of great importance throughout the wars of Scottish independence. Prominent battles of the 12th and 13th century such as Bannockburn and Stirling Bridge were both fought within sight of the castle. While visiting, you can enjoy the Queen Anne Gardens, the Great Hall, The Royal Palace and much more. The castle is currently open from 9:30am to 5pm, with the cafe operating between 11am and 5pm. Adult admission is set at £14, under 15s is £8.40 and 60+ is £11.20. There are also a range of discounted admissions so please be sure to check their website for further information. In addition, due to Covid-19, the number of visitors is limited at any given time so tickets must be booked online in advance.
In addition to Stirling Castle, you could also visit The National Wallace Monument. The Monument is a tall tower upon Abbey Craig, built in 1869 to honour the Scottish patriot Sir William Wallce. It now offers three exhibitions accessed via a 246 step spiral staircase and The Crown at the top, granting visitors breathtaking views of the surrounding Scottish landscape. Your ticket will also include access to beautiful walks around Abbey Craig, before arriving at the entrance to the monument. The site is open each day from 10am to 5pm and as with Stirling Castle, booking will have to be made online in advance of your visit. The Legend Coffee House will also operate from 10am to 5pm with outdoor and indoor seating available. Standard ticket prices are set at £10.75 for Adults, £6.75 for under 16s and £8.75 for 60+. Discounted entry and various offers are also available so please be sure to check out their website for further details. If you are traveling from the Penthouse Apartment, the Monument is only an 8 minute drive away with free parking available on site. Alternatively, there is a bus stop just a short walk from the apartment which will get you there in just under 30 minutes.
If you’re simply looking for a relaxing way to spend your evening or the Scottish weather just isn’t in your favor then checking out the Vue cinema might be a great choice. The cinema is a small 6 minute walk from the Penthouse Apartment and offers a great selection of food and drink inside. However, you could always opt for one of the many great restaurants just outside the cinema. These include favorites such as Nandos, Frankie & Benny’s and local venues like Gabes Diner. Due to the latest government guidelines, please book tickets online and in advance as limited seats are available.
