Perth’s Winter Festival is a 10-week long celebration of all things festive. Running from November through to Chinese New Year, the festival includes a number of events throughout December and January. We headed into Perth last month for the Christmas Light Switch-On event on the 15th November. This event alone is something to behold as the streets came alive with people and there was something for every age. There was a Chocolate and Gin Market in the streets, where people could sample local fare, alongside stalls selling other delicious food and hot drinks. There were funfair rides for younger children and a great programme of performances over three stages. The stage opposite the Horsecross theatre featured dancers from a local dance troupe, while the main stage had acts such as Giants of British Rock, Basil Brush and Atomic Kitten, with TV’s Stephen Mulhern as host. There was so much going on it was not possible to see everything, but here is a taste of the evening.
The fun doesn’t stop there with Christmas Markets continuing throughout December. Also, there will be a Santa Run in Perth on the 7th of December and a Christmas Tree Festival from the 11th to the 14th. Theatre and concerts will continue to run throughout, so if you are looking for a dash of culture to spice up your December, there is something for everyone here. Perth’s Winter Festival really is the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit.
