Festival season is almost over, but before we get ready to welcome in Autumn, there are a few more events worth visiting in the area. One week ago the popular Sruighlea Festival came back to Stirling to provide hundreds of visitors with a day of games, music, food and drinks. The highland dancing competition was the first event of the day. The stage, located at the entrance of the field, made for the perfect first taste of Scottish tradition for all guests arriving at the festival. The Balaklava Pipe Band warmed up the audience with a lively performance, just before this year’s games chieftain officially opened the games.
The frequent showers ad muddy terrain did not discourage athletes or the audience. Gathered around Stirling Games Field, everyone cheered on the competitors who entered the athletic and heavy events. A variety of delicious burgers and chips were provided by a few stalls run by local businesses, while on the other side of the field the Foods & Drinks Festival offered a small range of refreshing cocktails, ales and more.
With stunning views of the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle, the part of the field dedicated to the Foods & Drinks and Creative Arts Festival became the perfect place to relax. The entire audience loved the live performances by local musicians and circus performers, while workshops and activities kept people of all ages busy for the afternoon.
After the end of the games, the third edition of The Sruighlea Sessions took place on the main stage. A variety of Scottish bands and solo artists entertained the audience until late in the evening, with national legend Dougie MacLean closing the night with an unforgettable performance.
