The White Church and The Mackintosh Building
The White Church towers over all other buildings in the town centre. Built in 1805, it is now a Grade A listed building and it has become the symbol of Comrie. Just across the street from it, another white building stands out not only because of its colour, but also because of its unique style. The Mackintosh Building was designed by the famous Glaswegian architect in the early 1900s. Today it is used as a shop on the ground floor.
Auchingarrich and Cultybraggan POW Camp
Just a few minutes’ drive from the town centre are two of Comrie’s most popular attractions. Guided tours will run every Sunday throughout the whole summer, and if you fancy something spookier, ghost tours of the camp take place every Wednesday night. The Earthquake House
The UK is not known for tremors, but there is a reason behind Comrie’s nickname “The Shaky Toun”. In fact, this town is subject to more earthquakes than any other place in the country. The Earthquake House was built to detect any potential shocks or minor movements of the ground, and it is said to be Europe’s smallest listed building.
The Deil’s Cauldron and the Melville Monument
If you are feeling adventurous and the weather is on your side, you might want to hike up Dun Mor Hill to reach the Melville Monument. The circular walk to the obelisk and back goes through stunning woodland paths. Among tall green trees and magical waterfalls, you will start to believe in faeries and elves. The final stretch of the hike might be steep and a little rough, but the views from the top are definitely worth it!
