How would you describe In Your Element in one sentence?
In Your Element is an adventurous activity company offering amazing outdoor experiences for school & youth groups, families/friends, stags & hens and corporate groups across Scotland – with bases in Inverness, Aviemore, Loch Lomond and Loch Tay.
What can people expect from an afternoon with In Your Element?
People can choose from a whole host of outdoor experiences from tranquil canoe experiences on lochs and rivers, competitive target sports like archery or axe throwing, to adrenalin fuelled gorge walking with jumps and slides, to name but a few. Larger groups love our full range of team events like fun highland games, thrilling river sledging and unique land and water-based treasure hunts – whatever the activity, they are guaranteed an afternoon of fun, a huge sense of achievement and wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.
Which activities are most popular with your customers?
We run sessions on a scheduled basis for individuals and smalls groups and these are bookable online on our website. Canoeing and gorge walking are the most popular scheduled activities across the country. These canoe sessions are very relaxed and incorporated into them are lots of fun games, making them suitable for age 5+, where no experience is necessary. We run a variety of levels of gorge walks from family friendly sessions suitable for age 6+ to larger, more adrenalin fuelled experience with BIG jumps! Try them and you’ll see why they are both so popular!
Tailor-made group sessions are also available – these are bespoke sessions for groups of e.g. corporate clients, hen and stag or school/youth groups. The most popular activities for these groups are treasure hunts and highland games. Our treasure hunts are unique land and loch based (foot and canoe) hunts for treasure – it’s just a wonderful way for a group to get together, work in teams, take in awesome scenery and most importantly have a huge amount of fun! Highland Games are very popular too, especially if the group includes people from overseas. It’s a competitive event which includes lots of traditional and less traditional Scottish activities and can be held at many places across the country.

What do you like most about working for In Your Element?
I have a real love for the outdoors, so to be helping people plan their holiday, day trip, hen/stag, corporate outdoor event or school activity break daily is truly a pleasure. The real delight comes when they contact us after their activity to thank us for an amazing time they have had and sometimes they re-book again! You just can’t beat that feeling! Additionally, I think working with like-minded people is a big element too of me loving my job – we all want the same – to make people smile in the great outdoors and come back for more!
Do you have any special plans for when lockdown ends?
I want real adventure after the lockdown – I’m craving it! I’m hoping to paddle the Great Glen Canoe Trail with my family! That’s canoeing from Fort William to Inverness along the Caledonain Canal – wild camping along the way – it should hopefully take us 5 days. We, as a business, not only run guided outdoor experiences, but we also run a hire business too, where we hire out canoes, kayaks and all the necessary expedition kit for trips across the country. I’ll be hiring canoes, paddles, buoyancy aids, dry bags, maps, tents, cooking equipment – the lot! My boys are VERY, VERY excited after weeks and weeks indoors!
Is there anything else you would like to say to our readers?
We’d love to hear from them – we just need an idea of what they fancy, and we’ll advise them of an ideal experience to suit their needs, be it a few hours, to a full day or longer! We guarantee they won’t be disappointed, and their family/friends/ colleagues will thank them!
