Other Historical Buildings
This part of central Scotland has very many historical castles and buildings which are open to the public and many of which are easily accessible. Stirling Castle, Doune Castle, Menstrie Castle, Blackness Castle, The Wallace Monument, and the Old Town Jail, Stirling are a few of the attractions within easy travelling distance of any of our self-catering holiday cottages.
Scottish Submarine Centre
Scotlands only submarine museum and education centre. Based in Helensburgh the home of the UK’s Submarine fleet. The centre provide visitor with information about submarines and how they work. The centre uses immersive video and audio to provide learning experiences about the exploits of the submarine service and the people involved.
The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum
The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum traces over 200 years of one of Scotland’s elite military regiments – The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum is located in Stirling Castle, in the city of Stirling, Scotland. The Museum traces the history of the 91st Argyllshire Highlanders and the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders up to the time of their amalgamation in 1881 when they became the 1st and 2nd Battalions of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regiment and thereafter to the present day. Stirling Castle, Royal Palace of the Stuart Kings, has been the home of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise’s) since 1881 and through the years, many objects of regimental interest have been handed in, including: paintings, medals, silver, uniform and documents. Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum
The admission free Smith Art Gallery and Museum is the ideal choice for exploring the rich cultural history of Stirling, Stirlingshire and the Trossachs. Opened in 1874, at the bequest of artist Thomas Stuart Smith. This purpose built Victorian museum and art gallery houses over 40,000 objects and artworks which celebrate the people, heritage and culture, which make Stirling the heart of Scotland. Other outdoor activities
For those visitors looking for a little more action there are many opportunities in the area for golf, fishing, cycling, swimming and walking.
