With the lovely weather we are having this summer, here is an idea for what to do during your holiday. If you’ve never tried canoeing and you love a challenge, now is the best time. In Your Element offer canoeing at Loch Lubnaig, with two-person canoes it’s a great idea for birthdays, hen parties, team building, or even just a fun afternoon out on the water. It sounds easier than it is because it requires muscle power, especially when it is windy. However, with a stunning view and beautiful nature all around you, you won’t want to miss out on this experience.
We headed out to the stunning Loch Lubnaig, close to Callander, with In Your Element to see what it was all about. We were looked after by Ryan, who made sure we enjoyed ourselves whilst keeping us safe. Yes, that is the person in the photo doing a handstand, and no, we did not try it out, although it was tempting. You can expect this kind of fun when you come along. Imagine what it would be like if you came with your family or with a whole group of friends!
We played two games as part of our experience.
The first one I will call ‘Get the Rope’ where each canoe has one rope at the back and one at the front. You are supposed to get the ropes from the other canoes and keep your own in order to win. You might find reversing a bit tricky whenever you are in a rush. Excluding those of you who have tried before and are experts, for the rest of us it can get quite splashy until you learn how to manoeuvre . If you get stuck, don’t worry, as your instructor is always on hand to help you out of difficult situations.
The second game, I will call ‘Get the Duck’. The concept is pretty simple – a number of rubber ducks are thrown into the water randomly and whoever gets the most – wins. It could get competitive! As an amateur in canoeing, I found these games really useful to help me figure out the basics of canoeing and keeping balance in the first place. It was quite a joyful experience as well, especially when you are on the winning team. Who knows, you might try out doing a headstand yourselves!
Canoeing is just one example of what you could do. In Your Element offer different types of activities from river sledging in water to archery on land. They are extremely helpful and friendly and don’t worry if you have no clue what you are doing, these activities are great for beginners. Some of the activities are available at two levels – Discovery (beginners) and Adrenalin (experts), so you can easily tailor the experience to suit yourself. They offer canoeing at Loch Tay and Ardgarten as well, so if you enjoy Loch Lubnaig, you could try out different locations.
