Whisky is and always will be Scotland’s national drink, but did you know that this country also has a history of brewing beer that dates back 5,000 years?
Machinery and techniques might have changed over the centuries, but the population’s love for the cold, refreshing drink remains the same. In this day and age, smaller craft breweries are becoming increasingly popular with more than 100 operating across Scotland. What makes these micro breweries so appealing is their wish to rediscover the simple pleasure of the beer-making process, giving life to new, unique flavours. Most of these are family run businesses with small beginnings and stories of success.
Due to the popularity of craft beer, a new type of tourist is rising: “beer hunters”. The number of visitors looking to taste the unique ales produced all over the country is higher every year. Brewery tours and beer festivals are increasing in number and popularity, and many pubs now offer specific menus to go along with the craft beers available. Not a bad way to spend a cold, rainy evening during your holiday.
